12 January 25 - Stretch Your Budget: Affordable DIY Decorations and Activities

As your child’s party approaches, the idea of planning activities and decorations can seem overwhelming and costly. However, creating a magical and memorable celebration doesn’t need to break the bank. Here are some budget friendly ideas that are bound to impress your little one and their guests.

5 Easy Decoration Ideas

  1. Paper Banners. Simply cut out triangle shapes from coloured or wrapping paper and attach them to string to drape around your room. You can get your little one to decorate the triangles or spell out their name or Happy Birthday with a letter placed on each triangle.

  1. Jam Jar Table Decorations. Fill empty jam jars with colourful sweets, stones or other bright items and use them to decorate the party table.

  1. Pom Poms. Make lots of pom poms from paper or wool and hang from string as a garland.

  1. Decorative Tablecloth. Use an inexpensive plain paper tablecloth and draw pictures and words in colourful pen and add stickers for more fun.

  1. Fun Balloons. String lots of colourful balloons to make garlands or shapes. Or fill a clear balloon with a couple of small balloons.

5 Fun Activities to Keep your Guests Happy

  1. Photo Booth Fun. Create a picture frame using cardboard, decorate it, add props like funny glasses, hats, moustaches and let your guests get creative taking photos which you can share after the party.

  1. Party Masks. Cut out simple eye masks from cardboard and provide colourful pens and stickers for your guests to decorate their own. Add elastic or string and they can wear their creations home.

  1. Musical Chairs. This classic game only requires a little bit of space, some chairs and music. Fun for any age.

  1. Treasure Hunt. Hide small prizes around the room and provide a treasure map or read out the clues for them to follow. Simple and always a winner.

  1. The Chocolate Game. Who doesn’t love chocolate? Make your guests work for it by trying to eat the chocolate with a knife and fork! All you need are a die, plate, bar of chocolate, knife and fork, gloves, hat and scarf. The players sit in a circle and the first person to throw a 6 puts on all the clothes and tries to eat the chocolate with the cutlery. Other players continue to throw the die and as soon as another 6 is thrown, they swap over. Continue until all the chocolate is gone.

These suggestions will take some of the stress out of organising your child’s party and make it fun for everyone.
