Planning food for your child’s party while also catering for allergies and dietary restrictions can make things very stressful. Preparation is the key here and it’s a good idea to ask for this information as soon as you send out the invitations. You can then label or colour code the food so that there’s no confusion and everyone can have a fun time.

Here are 10 ideas to get you started. They are all gluten free, and many have suggestions for easily making them vegan and dairy and nut free.

1. Mini rice cakes with toppings

Use mini rice cakes and add toppings like dairy free cheese, chicken slices or avocado. Ensure that the toppings are dairy and nut free.

2. Sweet potato fries

Baked sweet potato fries seasoned with a little olive oil and salt. Naturally gluten, nut free and vegan.

3. Smoothie Popsicles

Blend up fruit with dairy-free yoghurt and a little honey and freeze in lollipop moulds. A cool and refreshing treat.

4. Popcorn

Pop your own in a pan with a little olive oil then add a salt or safe seasoning. It’s naturally gluten and peanut free and vegan.

5. Roasted Chickpeas

Add a teaspoon of non-nut oil and a pinch of salt to a can of drained chickpeas, lay out on a baking tray and roast for about 20 minutes. Delicious and gluten free and vegan.

6. Fruit salad cups

A medley of fresh fruits like melon, kiwi, grapes and berries in individual cups. Healthy, allergen free and vegan.

7. Baked Apple Slices

Thinly sliced apple sprinkled with cinnamon and baked until crisp. They’re a sweet vegan treat that’s free of gluten, dairy and nuts.

8. Courgette Pizza Bites

Slices of courgette, topped with tomato sauce and dairy free cheese. A healthy and allergen free take on a classic. Vegan.

9. Cucumber Cups

Hollow out small pieces of cucumber and fill with tuna salad or chickpea mash. They’re free of gluten, dairy and nuts.

10. Banana Oat Cookies

Take 2 ripe bananas, some gluten-free oats and a handful of non-dairy chocolate chips or raisins and mash them all up. Shape into balls and bake for 15 minutes at 180C. Vegan, gluten and dairy-free.
