Some of our clients:
We all want to capture those special moments of our children enjoying their birthday party but the thought of it can be stressful when you are doing all the organising too.
Here are a few simple tips to make the process a little easier and ensure you have wonderful photos to record those memories.
Preparation
Scout the location. Familiarise yourself with the venue if you can and check out where there is natural light or good places to take individual and group photos. This will make it much easier to quickly take those candid shots.
Charge your camera. Whether you are using a traditional camera or your phone, make sure it is charged before the event and take your charger with you, just in case.
Nominate a photographer. If you are the organiser of the party, it might be worth nominating another adult to take most of the photos so that you have a wide selection to choose from.
During the Party
Capture the decorations. Before your guests arrive, take shots of the decorations, balloons, and cakes to set the scene.
Start from the beginning. Don’t forget to record your guests' happy faces when they first arrive. There’s nothing like seeing excited children to make a great photo.
Candid over Posed. Kids photos are always better when they are caught playing, laughing, or talking to their friends so make sure you have plenty of these. A few posed photos of the group are fine but keep these to a minimum.
Get down to their level. Get down on your knees or the floor and take your photos at kids’ eyelevel for the best record of their perspective of the party.
Use Burst Mode. Using the Burst mode on your camera is the best way to capture action shots of your active, fastmoving guests.
Zoom in on the details. Don’t forget to notice the little things – small hands opening gifts and laughing and expressive faces.
Group Shots
Get everyone together early. Try to take any group shots as early in the party as possible before the kids get distracted, or even tired, later.
Go for fun poses. Give the kids permission to jump around and pull funny faces for more interesting shots.
Create a Photo Booth. Kids love to dress up and encouraging them to get together in a photo booth with some funny props will always produce great photos.
After the event
Editing your photos. You can use Apps to edit and add filters to your pics but use these sparingly. If you’ve followed these tips, you should have some great ones already.
Create an Album. You can share an album with parents digitally, but why not go old school and print the photos off too. There’s nothing like leafing through a physical photo album to help you remember a wonderful event.
And one final tip, don’t forget to enjoy the party too! Your child will love that you are involved in their birthday. It can be easy to spend too much time trying to capture a record of the event and forgetting the real reason behind it. Ask yourself, will we really look back over 300 photos or a long video? Quality over quantity always wins.
By following these tips, you’ll be able to capture the joyous spirit of the party and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime. Happy snapping!
